Sand
A beach would not be a beach without sand, but after we have visited the
beach, enjoyed the sand, we later cant get rid of it quick enough. Sand gets
in everywhere, in your shoes, in the car, then finally all over the kitchen
floor, but we love it.

One of the most impressive feats of nature is the erosion of massive
mountains into sand. Individual sand grains are the size of table salt
grains, Sand from mountains is often made of angular pieces of quartz and
mica. Strong winds pile the minute grains of desert lake beds into hills of
sand called dunes.
After countless centuries of rubbing together, the
grains of some sand dunes become smooth and rounded, like tiny pebbles in a
rushing stream.
One event you wouldn't expect to find on the
Brighton calendar is the World Sand Sculpture Festival. That, however, is
exactly what you're going to get when ten thousand tons of special sand are
shipped from the Netherlands and deposited in Brighton.
Grain Size - The terms gravel, sand, silt and clay
carry with them a size connotation. Gravel is any material greater than 2
millimetres in its largest dimensions, Sand is any material about 2 mm and
0.06 mm in size.
