Jelly Fish

I don't like jelly fish :) even though most are quite harmless, those Portuguese man of war jellyfish has made me hate them, just like the tarantula has made me hate spiders

Jellyfish on beachYou will find lots of jellyfish washed up on the beaches (All dead) and sometimes very smelly too. Keep away from them.

In October or November the jellyfish will breed, releasing tiny swimming embryos into the water, and the adults then probably die as the water gets colder. The embryos attach themselves to fixed structures. They look a bit like tiny sea anemones and feed and grow like this for a year, hanging downwards from a support.

People have were warned not to touch the jellyfish, about 1,000 of them came ashore at Blackrock sands in Morfa Bychan, near Porthmadog, a place I visit regular (June 2007).

The moon jellyfish are the UK's most common and the species can arrive in areas in massive numbers. They deliver a mild sting if touched. It is not too dangerous, but it could be worse for people who are allergic.
