Bucket and Spade

Traditionally people take a bucket and spade to the beach for the children, these days you will find the locals have named pubs, restaurants, and shops with that name.

In the 1900 the bucket and spade would have been made out of tin, and soon corroded when they came in contact with sea salt water.

Benjamin, Gower BeachToday modern bucket and spades are made of durable plastic, and last for many years.

Bucket and spades are used by the children to make quick sand castles, just fill with wet sand, turn them over and you have a small sand castle. They are also used to collect sea shells, and crabs from pools.
