Wind Surfing
While
there are now windsurfing crafts with wheels, than can "Sail" along the
sand, mostly wind surfing is on the sea with a surfboard and a sail.
Push the sail one way to turn, and hold it so that the wind blows from
behind to go forward. Some skill is needed to sail correctly and its not a
sport many enjoy.
Safety
You should be a good swimmer and wear a lifejacket too. For novices you
start with the dry land simulator, where basics can be taught and
demonstrated, but don't worry you'll soon be on the water and speeding along
the sea. Good beaches will have an instructor and rescue/teaching boat are
in attendance on the sea, equipped with VHF radios and marine safety
equipment.
 Oh
and you get to wear one of those psychedelic suites, I guess that's why
they invented sunglasses too.
