Fossils

The beach is full of fossils, left there millions of years ago. You can have fun on the beach searching for these fossils, but exactly what are fossils' Shell decomposed, Voids replaced by minerals, Rock-like substitute of the original creature.

Fossils come in a many shapes and sizes, from minute "traces" to large skeletons. "Trace" fossils give clues to what life may have been like millions of years ago, they show activities of  the presence of creatures and plants. A Trace fissile might be a footprint, skeleton or might show a burrow. The very large fossils are bones from a dinosaurs from the Triassic or Cretaceous periods.

What happened is this;
Mr Ammonite was swimming about in the Carboniferous period, when he suddenly died :)- He then sank to the bottom of the sea. The sea drained away over millions of years, leaving behind sediment, and Mr Ammonite stuck in it. He got compressed over time, his body decomposed but minerals in the water formed around it, and turned rock hard.
