Seahorse
One
of the mysterious, creatures in the ocean is the seahorse, It looks unreal
and made-up and unless you see one yourself you cant believe there is such a
thing.
Seahorses are experts of camouflage divers rarely see them, yet they are
distributed worldwide in all but the coldest seas. Their way of deception
include several strategies.
Blotchy skin, changing colour, all help them blend in with their
surroundings. They may also grow extra skin to imitate seaweed or sea grass
growths. Seahorses may have texture and colours so similar to their
surroundings they are almost invisible, and their slow, careful movements
enhance their ability to remain unseen.
Seahorses are under threat worldwide, the world demand for seahorses and
seahorse related products is vast with over 77 nations trading 24 million
seahorses each year.
All Seahorses are a protected species in
British seas and collection for whatever reason is illegal. |
