Crabs

Crabs walk sideways because that's the way their legs bend, this also lets them squeeze between the rocks and into holes. One of the first things you might see on a beach is a crab, shooting under rocks when your shadow hits the water, or running from pool to pool. You may also see the seagulls diving at them hoping for a snack.

Look for the crabs in the pools left behind by the tidal waters, under stones or seaweed, but stay away from those big ones as those pinchers could hurt :)-

Crabs have ten legs but two of them have developed into powerful claws used to catch food, or for fighting with other crabs. You may also see some crabs with a claw missing, this is obviously a crab that lost a fight.

The crab see's from its eyes on the top of its head, along with a pair of feelers between the eyes, it can see and feel around in water very well. The crab is a member of the group of animals called Crustacea, the body is very soft, but is protected by a hard shell on the outside call an exoskeleton.

If your collecting crabs with your bucket and spade, careful how you handle them, try to craps them with your fingers placed from behind at the top centre, and your thumb at the bottom centre. Now that you caught one, let is go as soon as possible.
