Wear protective footwear in the water to avoid cuts, stings and other
hazards.
The ocean
floor that lies beneath the waves can be hard on your feet. While many beaches
are safe and feature little more than sand and the odd shell beneath their
waves, there is always a chance for you to encounter a sharp edged broken shell.
On beaches with rocky shorelines, you'll want to be careful about stones that
might have sharp, jagged edges that can cause nasty cuts.
Wearing an old
pair of shoes, will give protection. Booties, often worn
by surfers, give an extra layer which will shield your feet
from minor scrapes and stings caused by poisonous sea creatures.

Ah, how many people remember the good old days of the plastic sandal.
While your mum may have bought you a pair for the beach, you also had to
wear them to school through the summer, but they were great so you didn't
mind at all. They did split after a whiles though, I guess they weren't
designed for kicking in playgrounds. |
